DELAWARE, Ohio: The Ohio State Highway Patrol said a suspect in a rest area shooting on Interstate 71 shot and killed himself while being pursued by troopers and the highway remained closed for hours.
The patrol said the shooting occurred just after 11 a.m. Sunday in Delaware County. The suspect fired several shots at a vehicle and a person was struck and injured.
Troopers located and pursued the shooter into Richland County, where he drove his vehicle over road spikes and crashed into a guardrail. After surrounding the vehicle, they discovered the man was dead.
His name was being withheld while relatives were notified. The shooting victim, whose name also was withheld, was listed in critical condition at a local hospital.
No officers were injured.
