MINERVA: The Ohio auditor has declared the village’s financial records unauditable.
The state cited incomplete financial records and bank reconciliations.
“Poor records lead to poor service for taxpayers,” Auditor Dave Yost said Tuesday in a prepared statement. “Auditable records must be provided to complete the audit and ensure accountability.”
Independent accounting firm Alger & Associates discovered the problem during a regular audit covering 2014 and 2015.
Auditors also discovered that the village’s fiscal officer position is vacant.
The village has 90 days to fix its records and provide the necessary data to perform an audit.
Minerva could face legal action if it doesn’t, the state said.
