A man who a witness said had a gun while attempting to enter the Oliver Ocasek Building on South High Street in downtown Akron has been taken into custody, but no gun has been located.

Akron police report the man was not charged. The man was white, about 5’8” wearing a red shirt, blue jeans, black coat and a baseball cap.

A caller to police reported the man had a gun. The caller saw him running from his car, parked at the corner of East Bowery and South Broadway. He was apprehended in the vicinity.

“We did not find a gun,” police spokesman Lt. Rick Edwards said. “We’re going to review security footage to see if he ever had one, but right now we have not found a gun.”

The Ocasek Building, which is home to state offices, was put into lockdown at about 4 p.m. for safety reasons. The man never actually entered the building. No shots were fired in the incident.

Several roads in the area were closed pending the investigation.
