  2:40 p.m.

911 callers report a car accident on the Ohio Turnpike westbound near the 185.7 mile marker. A caller describes watching a car crash into another car before flipping on its roof. Another caller tells dispatchers a man has exited the vehicle on its roof and is running away. He describes the man as “running wildly” from the scene into a nearby wooded area. “There’s something wrong with this guy,” the caller tells dispatchers. He’s described as wearing a black quilted jacket and jeans. The other car involved in the crash was not seriously damaged and the driver exits uninjured.

2:50 p.m.

A State Highway Patrol dispatcher tells a Hudson dispatcher that the man who ran from the vehicle — later identified as 26-year-old Saif Alameri, a United Arab Emirates citizen and a law student at Case Western Reserve University — was wearing a black quilted jacket and jeans. A caller tells dispatchers she thinks the man is of American Indian descent. “He was seen stumbling, so it’s possible it’s an OVI situation,” the dispatcher says.

2:54 p.m.

Hudson Police Officer Ryan Doran begins searching for Alameri. His dashboard camera video records radio traffic as he searches through the city.

3 p.m.

Doran turns onto an access road off Hudson Aurora Road, about a half-mile north of the turnpike crash.

3:01:03 p.m.

Doran, the sole officer at the scene, reports to dispatchers: “I got him.”

3:01:08 p.m.

Doran parks his cruiser on the access road and exits his vehicle. As depicted on video, he draws his gun and shouts, “Stop! I will shoot! Get down!” as he runs across the screen and off camera.

3:01:18 p.m.

Doran shouts at Alameri to stop and get down. Rustling noises can be heard. “I will shoot you!” he shouts. “Get down on the f****** ground!”

3:01:26-3:02:04 p.m.

Doran repeatedly shouts for Alameri to stop and get down. More rustling noises can be heard.

3:02:04-3:02:23 p.m.

Audio is silent except for a blip on the radio and the occasional rustling noise.

3:02:24 p.m.

Three gunshots ring out, fired in quick succession.

3:02:27 p.m.

What sounds like a man grunting can be heard.

3:02:28 p.m.

A fourth gunshot rings out while what sounds like a man whimpering can be heard.

3:02:30 p.m.

A fifth gunshot rings out.

3:02:32 p.m.

A sixth gunshot rings out.

3:02:35 p.m.

“Shots fired,” Doran reports. A man moaning, seemingly in pain, can be heard.

3:02:37 p.m.

The moaning stops.

3:02:54 p.m.

Doran again reports to dispatch that shots have been fired.

3:03:25 p.m.

“Subject down,” Doran says.

3:04:22 p.m.

Dispatchers ask Doran if he’s injured. “I’m all right,” he says.

3:05 p.m. onward

Other officers begin arriving on scene. They at first struggle to find Doran’s location. When they find him, officers attempt life-saving measures on Alameri, but are unsuccessful. The Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office later performed an autopsy and reported Alameri died of five gunshots: one to the head, one to the face and three to the left leg.
