Akron police were searching late Thursday night for an Akron man wanted for questioning in the death of his elderly mother.
The 78-year-old woman was discovered dead in her home in the 1100 block of Hartford Avenue in West Akron by her daughter about 9 p.m., according to Lt. Rick Edwards of the Akron Police Department.
Authorities wouldn’t release the woman’s identity or information about how she died pending an autopsy by the Summit County Medical Examiner.
Edwards said the death is being investigated as a homicide.
Akron police were seeking the woman’s son, Derrick Williams, 47, who lived with his mother.
“He’s wanted for questioning,” Edwards said. “He’s not there and neither is his car.”
Williams was described by police as a 6-foot, 2-inch black man weighing about 290 pounds. He drives a 2014 black Hyundai Accent, license plate number GOW-3738.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Akron police detective bureau at 330-375-2490.
