Police are searching for an Akron man they’ve charged with murder in the slaying of his elderly mother, who was discovered in her home Thursday night dead of blunt force trauma to the head.
Derrick Williams, 47, was living with 78-year-old Alaine Williams in the 1100 block of Hartford Avenue in West Akron. His sister went to the house Thursday night because she had been trying to reach their mother all day. She told 911 dispatchers she found her mother dead on the kitchen floor.
“My mother — I haven’t been able to get in touch with her. I came to her house,” she told a dispatcher at about 9 p.m. “My brother killed her — he killed her.”
She described the graphic scene to the dispatcher and begged for help through tears.
“He smashed her face in!” she said. “I can’t even hardly recognize her!”
Asked why she suspected her bother was the culprit, the woman told the dispatcher he had mental problems.
“He’s mental,” she said. “I told her not to let him stay here.”
As of Friday afternoon, police had not located Derrick Williams. He’s described as a 6-foot-2 black man weighing 290 pounds. He drives a black 2014 Hyundai Accent with license plate GOW3738. Neither Williams nor his vehicle were at the scene when his sister arrived.
The siblings’ mother was pronounced dead at about 9:30 p.m. The Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled she died of multiple blunt force trauma to the head, and her death was listed as a homicide.
