Since joining the Beacon Journal in 1995, Betty Lin-Fisher has been a copy editor and has served as a Saturday metro editor, metro reporter and business reporter.
She has been a business and consumer reporter and columnist for the paper since 2000.
She is best known for her coverage of natural gas issues, having first analyzed prices of natural gas when the industry was deregulated in 2000 as a pilot program, leaving many readers confused about how to choose a provider.
She also covers general business news and writes a weekly consumer column on Sundays.
In 2015, Betty has been one of the lead writers in the "Who Will Lead" year-long leadership series looking at the graying leadership in the Akron area and who is waiting in the wings -- or left behind -- to take leadership positions.
Prior to joining the Beacon, Lin-Fisher interned at the Philadelphia Inquirer and Wichita (Kansas) Eagle and worked for the Iowa City Press-Citizen.
She has received many awards for her work, including the Reclaim the Dream series, which won several state and national awards. Her stories and columns have garnered other accolades.
Lin-Fisher was honored in April 2013 with the Robert G. McGruder 2013 Diversity in Media Distinguished Leadership Award from Kent State University. The award recognizes the accomplishments of media professionals who encourage diversity in the field of journalism. She was the first Asian-American to receive the award.
A Chicago-area native, Lin-Fisher graduated from the University of Iowa with a degree in Journalism and Environmental Studies.
Lin-Fisher lives in the Akron area with her husband and two children.
