A 20-year-old was arrested and charged early Wednesday morning with leading police on a high-speed chase through Akron in a stolen vehicle with a 12-year-old girl aboard.
Reginald Frazier, of Cleveland, was charged with receiving stolen property, carrying a concealed weapon, failure to comply with police orders, improperly handling a firearm, having weapons illegally and violating adult curfew. He was taken to the Summit County Jail, where he’s being held.
According to reports, police located Frazier driving a stolen vehicle at about 1 a.m. Wednesday at East Market Street and Goodyear Boulevard. Police said Frazier was driving with his high-beams on and turned them off when he passed police, but didn’t leave his headlights on. That alerted police enough to run the vehicle’s license plates, only to find it was stolen.
Officers said they attempted to stop Frazier, but he fled at speeds reaching 70 mph. The chase lasted about a mile and a half and ended in the 400 block of North Arlington Street, where Frazier was blocked by a passing train. He and a man in the passenger seat exited the vehicle and a loaded gun was located inside. The other man was issued a summons for violating adult curfew and released.
Adults can be charged with curfew violations if they’re out with a juvenile past curfew and they’re not the legal guardian. Curfews also can be a condition of probation for adults.
Frazier, who has a criminal history and was therefore not permitted to possess guns, was placed under arrest.
A 12-year-old girl was located in the backseat. She was returned home to Ford Avenue in Akron and was issued a summons for violating curfew.
Frazier and the other man would not say how they knew the girl or why she was with them, according to reports. Frazier also denied stealing the vehicle, which was reported missing from Cuyahoga Falls.
