Travelers can sign up for PreCheck — the program that lets them quickly go through security lines at airports — at a temporary enrollment site Feb. 6-10 at Akron-Canton Airport in Green.
PreCheck — operated by the Transportation Security Administration — allows approved fliers to leave on their shoes and light outerwear and belts when going through designated screening lanes.
Additionally, passengers enrolled in PreCheck can keep their laptops in cases and their approved liquids and gels in a carry-on.
The program’s enrollment fee of $85 comes with a guaranteed five-year membership for approved applicants.
The temporary site is a way to make enrollment more convenient, said Akron-Canton Airport’s director of marketing, Lisa Davala Dalpiaz.
Travelers wanting to sign up at the Akron-Canton Airport, are advised to pre-enroll and set up a date and time for an appointment by going to http://identogo.com/precheck. Appointment slots are filling up quickly, Dalpiaz said.
Walk-ins are not guaranteed an appointment.
TSA, which has been trying to increase PreCheck enrollment, said more than 4 million people are now in the program. PreCheck is now available at more than 180 airports. TSA touts on its website that in November of last year, 96 percent of PreCheck passengers waited in line less than five minutes.
To pre-enroll on the identogo.com/precheck site, click on “Start Your Application” and then “Apply Now” and fill out steps 1 through 4. At Step 4, type in “Akron, OH” and choose “5400 Lauby Rd” to schedule an appointment at the temporary enrollment site at the airport. To see what documents to bring to an appointment, click on the “What to Bring” box on the main identogo.com/precheck page.
Appointment times are at the bottom of the screen. (The first available time shows, but applicants can use the drop down to choose a different date or time.)
The Akron-Canton Airport temporary enrollment site will be in the second floor conference room at the airport, 5400 Lauby Road NW in Green.
Also in the Akron area, there is a permanent PreCheck enrollment site at 3094 W. Market St. in Fairlawn.
