Cleveland-area TV viewers will see a familiar ad during this Sunday’s Super Bowl game.
Kent State University will run the same ad they ran last year with the theme “Undeniably Kent State.”

It will only run in the Cleveland market. Last year, it ran in both Cleveland and Erie, Pa.
The cost of this year’s ad is $48,000, a little cheaper than last year’s ad, because of its reduced target to only the Cleveland area. Last year’s ad was $58,500.
The ad is part of the rebranding effort last year from “Excellence in Action” to “Undeniably Kent State.” The rebranding was a year-and-a-half in the making by the marketing company 160over90. The original rebranding ad runs for a full two minutes in its entirety. Like last Super Bowl, only a 30-second portion of it will run.
“The spot really captures what we believe is the heart of Kent State. The video and other tangible elements [billboards, banners, etc.] are part of an ongoing campaign to continue the momentum represented by Kent State’s defined core values, distinctive vision and university priorities and to set the tone regionally, nationally and internationally for the university’s future,” said KSU spokesman Eric Mansfield.
The university’s advertising costs for the spring 2017 budget are just over $1 million, less than the $1.6 million in the advertising budget for the 2016 spring semester.
Last year the University of Akron did not run an ad during the Super Bowl, despite airing ads in previous years. It will not air one this year either.
