CANTON: City police and fire departments were investigating a fatal crash that left two people dead and one injured on Tuscarawas Street West at Raff Road on Saturday evening.
Canton Police Sgt. Michael Gary confirmed that two people were killed and one person survived the two-vehicle crash, with the victims being transported to Aultman Hospital and Mercy Medical Center. No other details about the victims were available.
The crash was reported at 6:10 p.m. in the westbound lanes of Tuscarawas Street. Gary said one vehicle was headed north on Raff Road and the other was westbound on Tuscarawas Street when the vehicles collided. He said investigators plan to reconstruct the accident.
A Jeep SUV involved in the crash had front-end damage. Much of the passenger side of the other car, a Chevy Malibu, was shorn off. Gary said both of those killed were in the Malibu. Crews used hydraulic rescue tools to pry the victims from the car.
Police closed the westbound lanes of Tuscarawas Street on Saturday evening until the vehicles could be removed and debris cleaned up.
