A former teacher’s assistant at Emmanuel Christian Academy in Akron is charged with sending nude photographs of himself via social media last year to five juvenile girls.
Chanc A. Baylor, 23, of Bristol Terrace, Akron, was charged Wednesday with disseminating material harmful to juveniles after turning himself in with an attorney to Akron Municipal Court, police said.
Police said Baylor was an art teacher’s assistant who last worked at the school in late February 2016. The school is at 350 S. Portage Path; Akron police said the incident was reported at the school’s previous location off Diagonal Road.
The private school is for students in kindergarten through eighth grade. A person answering the phone at the school hung up twice on a reporter seeking comment on the charges involving the former employee.
Emmanuel Christian’s website says the school educates students using a biblical foundation and focuses on children “who historically are defined as being at-risk and those who are underserved in traditional systems of education.” The website said that as of the 2014 school year, it had 220 students enrolled.
Akron police said the social media incidents were reported to them starting March 10. Officers have so far identified five females who received the images.
