Bridgestone Americas on Tuesday rededicated its newly consolidated data center in Akron after a two-year, $17.3 million renovation project.

The 10,000-square-foot Akron Data Center houses the tire maker’s core information technology systems, including 3,000 physical and virtual servers.

The project, which retains 140 local jobs, puts everything under one roof system that was in five other locations. Work was done in February.

Nashville-based Bridgestone Americas said the centralized location simplifies operations and offers more reliability.

The center features an environmentally friendly cooling system and allows for more robust disaster recovery, the company said.

“Bridgestone Americas is proud to call Akron an important home for our teammates and I am delighted to be here for the official Data Center grand re-opening,” said Bill Thompson, Bridgestone Americas chief operating officer.

In December, the company extended through 2020 a lease of its Akron race tire manufacturing facility where more than 50 people work.
