The president of Medina Hospital is stepping down and returning to full-time medical practice.

Dr. Thomas Tulisiak has resigned as the community hospital’s president, according to a news release issued Thursday night by the Cleveland Clinic, which owns the community hospital.

His resignation is effective May 1.

Vicky Snyder, chief operating officer at Medina Hospital, will serve as interim president while a search is conducted for his replacement.

Tulisiak has served as president of Medina Hospital since 2011.

He will return to clinical practice within the Cleveland Clinic Medicine Institute and will see patients at the Medina Hospital Medical Office Building.

“After six years as hospital president and recently becoming a new grandparent, I have decided to spend more time with my family,” Tulisiak said in a prepared statement. “Nevertheless, I will continue to serve the Medina community and return to clinical practice. I am confident of Cleveland Clinic’s commitment to Medina Hospital, the Medina community and region, and that Medina Hospital remains a vital strategic asset of our organization.”

The board-certified family medicine physician has been on the medical staff of the hospital since 1983. Before becoming president, he served as medical director of the Cleveland Clinic Brunswick Family Health Center and vice president of medical operations at Medina Hospital.

“We’d like to thank Tom for his work and dedication to our patients, caregivers and the surrounding communities,” Dr. J. Stephen Jones, president of Cleveland Clinic Regional Hospitals and Family Health Centers, said in a prepared statement. “Tom has led Medina Hospital since nearly the beginning of its integration with Cleveland Clinic. Over the last six years, the hospital has become financially strong, expanded cardiology services, added pediatric subspecialties and a comprehensive wound center, and has seen a significant increase in quality and patient satisfaction. We appreciate the leadership Tom has provided, and we look forward to having him remain on the Medina Hospital medical staff.”

Snyder has nearly 30 years of health care administrative, financial and operations experience. She has been chief operating officer at Medina Hospital for the last eight years. Before joining Medina Hospital, she worked in health care financial management and held roles as vice president of operations and director of finance at Fairview Hospital.

Medina Hospital joined the Cleveland Clinic in 2009. Since then, Cleveland Clinic has invested more than $80 million in the hospital, including new operating rooms, a wound center clinic and other outpatient services. It’s currently in the midst of a $5.8 million upgrade to the Emergency Department and a $1.4 million upgrade to the Intensive Care Unit.

The Cleveland Clinic also recently announced plans to close the community hospital’s maternity unit at the end of June. All birthing services will be consolidated in three Cleveland Clinic hospitals — Akron General, Fairview and Hillcrest.
